Feb08-Message from Greg Monaco

A group of baboons is a troop, ants are a colony and otters are a romp. Each name reflects on the character of the animal a little, doesn’t it? I wonder what a group of Christians might be called. Look at this excerpt from a book called The Barbarian Way by Erwin McManus:

But my favorite of all the group designations is the rhinos. Rhinos can run at 30 mph, which is pretty fast when you consider how much weight they are pulling. Running at 30 mph is faster than a squirrel or a used Pinto would go. Just one problem with this phenomenon. Rhinos can only see 30 feet in front of them. Can you imagine something that large moving in concert as a group, plowing ahead at 30 mph with no idea what is at 31 feet? You would think that they would be far too timid to pick up full steam, that their inability to see far enough ahead would paralyze them to immobility. But with that horn pointing the way, rhinos run forward full steam ahead without apprehension—which leads us to their name.

Rhinos moving together at full speed are known as a crash. Even when they're just hanging around enjoying the watershed, they're called a crash because of their potential. You've got to love that. I think that is what we are supposed to be. We become an unstoppable force. We don't have to pretend we know the future. Who cares that we can see only 30 feet ahead? Whatever is at 31 feet needs to care that we're coming and better get out of the way.

We need to move together as God's people, and become the human version of the rhino crash. The future is uncertain, but we need to move toward it with confidence. There's a future to be created, a humanity to be liberated. We need to stop wasting our time and stop being afraid of what we cannot see and do not know. We need to move forward full force because of what we do know. We may not be able to see what's at 31 feet, but we don't have to be blind to what is right in front of us. There's a world that desperately needs God, a world filled with loneliness, hopelessness, and fear.

Pray for us here at YFC, that we become a Crash here in Macomb and Bushnell.

Feb08-Bushnell Beat

Remember Jesus said in John 10:9 -10, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

There are some teenagers in Bushnell right now, that are finding life in Christ and desiring to live it to the full. Twenty-three teens, five volunteers and myself just returned from Dare 2 Share (a conference on how to share your faith with anyone) in the wee hours of the morning on Feb. 10. Two young ladies put their trust in Christ for the first time and several other made firmer commitments to Christ, releasing things that bound them and other sin in their lives.

At Depth Charge on Feb. 13 we had song, prayer and testimony night about events since D2S. Teen after teen described how they had shared the gospel with someone in the last 4 days. Some put their trust in Christ as their Savior, others planted seeds, and still others rejected the message all together. This all happened right here in Bushnell! Please pray for the Holy Spirit to keep moving like He has this past week. Pray for the evil presence to be lifted off of this town and people’s eyes and hearts open to the truth of God. It is truly amazing to see what God is doing and is going to do here! If anyone feels the need to get involved or help mentor teens involved in YFC, please call Todd at 309-333-6186.

I was so thankful that volunteers Vicki, Dave, Kim, Richard, and Collin, attended our Volunteer/Staff conference back in min-January. What a neat time we had building relationships with each other and understanding where we fit into the overall plan of God’s Kingdom. I would personally like to thank all volunteers for the time they spend investing in the lives of BPC teens.

Michelle and I are really looking forward to attending the National YFC Staff Conference in late February. Thank you to all of you that sent a special gift so that we could go! San Diego should be nice this time of year and will be a good chance for Michelle and I to get away. Thank you also to those of you who are keeping our children during this time.

Please don’t miss a chance to come to the Souper Duper Soup Supper, March 7 @ 6:00pm at the Community Christian Center in Bushnell. You can buy tickets ($4 – adults, $2 – children) at the door or from a teen or adult involved with YFC. You will get a chance to hear from students and be served by them throughout the evening. What a neat chance to come be served by teens and support what is happening in the BPC area!

Please Pray for:

· Our children – they have been sick lately
· Struggling teens to come back to Jesus
· The lost to be found – boldness in sharing the gospel, the best news of all
· More harvesters for those that are going to come to Christ
· For teens to be drawn to area churches where they can serve and grow
