Jan/Feb09-Mike Cox

It has been a number of years since I came on as a member of the YFC Trustees. One or two years prior to that my daughter was involved in club activities. She learned a lot about her personal relationship with God as well as building relationships. My wife and I always wanted our daughter and her friends to spend as much time as they wanted at our house. That allowed us to build our own relationships with these students. We were and still are so encouraged by the their closeness to God and to each other. We hope that these relationships remain strong.

I read an interesting statement by a man that, at the time, was homeless. He had a compassion for fishing and friendships. He said he didn’t understand why anyone would catch a nice fish and then just release it rather than show it off or let it help sustain you. And if he was your friend, he would be your friend forever and be there to sustain you.

I think back to those who have built their relationships through YFC, church youth programs or other groups just like my daughter. This has helped me see just some of the value YFC brings to young peoples lives. It is my hope that we as adults with young people in our lives will continue to see the need and do all we can to help those needs be met. Even if it means that we need to step outside our box and get involved in ways that we had not dreamed we would.

We have great challenges to meet and need your prayer and support. We would love to hear from you if you could help us in anyway. We would like to grow our board so that we have the best representation possible. Or perhaps an individual could help with some executive director duties or volunteer to help with events or with the newsletter. If you have any of these interests, please feel free to contact the following individuals: Mike Cox 309-255-0643, Tye Adair 309-836-2971, Todd Rodeffer 309-333-6186 or Deanna Eden 309-333-0111.

If you are interested in checking out a YFC Board Meeting, please feel free to drop by our February meeting on Monday, February 9th. We are meeting at 6:00 p.m. at Il Spazio’s Restaurant (upstairs) for coffee. We are encouraging past board members to come as well as we continue to develop our vision for YFC in Macomb and Bushnell. Please join us!

Jan/Feb09-News in Macomb

Hello! I hope that everyone enjoyed their holidays and was able to spend time with the people that matter most. Campus Life has gotten off to a great start this new year. Mandy and I, along with our volunteers, attended a “Volunteer” Conference in Oregon, Illinois the 9th- 10th of January. We received some excellent training from Cadre Ministries about “Building Relationships” vs. “Running Programs”. During our small group time we had some excellent discussions with Todd and the Bushnell volunteers. We were able to share our lives, joys, and even our struggles. It was a great time of renewal and will help us all get a fresh start for the new year.

We took two of our students to Winter Jam 09 on the 23rd where we were able to enjoy a praise and worship concert featuring Newsong, tobyMac, Hawk Nelson, The Afters, and others. Mandy and I have been building relationships with the students that attend CL and CL-M, and also with students at the schools. They are all wonderful kids, but many of them do not know God. Pray that through our relationships we can show them God’s love and plan for their lives, so that they will come to know Him.

God does not need me, but I desperately need Him! I am so thankful for God’s unending love for me, and all people. “But God demonstrated His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) Without this truth, we are doomed. There is no reason for living beyond our self. Thanks be to the Lord Jesus Christ for giving us a way back to the Father.

This January has brought many new chances to share God’s love toward and with teens in Bushnell. We have taken 3 trips already this month and we are going to Faith Bible camp Jan. 30 – Feb 1. Also coming up March 6 is our 10th Annual Super Douper Soup Supper. I want to personally invite all of you to come and be served by our local teens that night. The cost is $4 for adults, and $2 for children.

On Jan. 6 we took about 20 teens over to Faith Bible Camp to see a past student leader and volunteer, Collin Hornbaker, perform with Carpenter Tools International. CTI, as Collin’s group is known, played current Christian music with drama and testimonies. Any chance we can get, to go someplace with teens is one of the things we strive for. This allows for interaction and communication between volunteers, staff, and teens. Collin had a large role in Bushnell YFC and it is nice to see God using him as he fly’s with Christ.

A ski trip a couple of weeks ago produced opportunities to get to know a new student at our local Jr. High and to talk about the definition of LOVE. Judy (not her real name) has lost her mom recently and needs a solid place to hang out with friends. She is doing well socially, but needs prayer for her inner being. Pray for her mind and heart, that God might reveal Himself to her in a special way. LOVE is an overused word in our society, and equally misunderstood, especially by kids growing up in unstable environments. The trip home provided time to discuss the meaning of love and what it actually is. Praise God for trips and events with teens.

Also, last weekend, 4 adult volunteers, 17 teens, and myself attended the annual Winter Jam concert in Peoria. What a night. It is a blessing to hear Christian bands like Hawk Nelson and Toby Mac. They really do love the Lord and witness for Him. Pray for another junior high girl that could make a real difference if she chooses to follow Christ. She talked to me on the way home about her family and her spiritual life. There are so many things that capture the attention of teens today, it is hard for them to see God at work. Pray for a breakthrough in her life.

Things to Pray for:

Handing my plans over to the Lord
To be a useful vessel for His Kingdom
A couple of christian teens that are going to be mother and father
Continued partnership with churches for the Kingdom’s sake
Schedule of Events
CL-M (Jr High)-Mondays @ 6-8 pm
Depth Charge-Wednesdays @ 8 pm
Teen Lunch-Thursdays @ 11 am
CL (HS)-Thursday @ 7 pm

Jan/Feb09-Baby News

As most of you know, my husband and I were expecting our fourth child to be born in December. I would like to thank everyone who has kept us in your prayers, we had some complications with our third child and this was to be my fourth cesarean, but we had the baby without any complications. Elijah Aidan Jump was born the 21st at 8:20am, he weighed 7lbs 7.3oz and was 19in long. We are all very excited to have the new baby around, and our children love to help take care of their little brother. Thanks again for your prayers. - Kayleigh
