July12 - Macomb Moments

Macomb Moments
Loving Summer Break!
As we try not to whine through the crazy heat-wave of present, I keep reminding
myself of how much fun we continue to have!  We had such a blast at the golf
outing! On behalf of all those served in Macomb  thank you for joining us!

YFC had a presence at this year’s Heritage Days.  We hosted Minute to Win It
games as well as made some great balloon creations {in fact, our students made
better creations than someone charging people for them – nice job, folks!}

We also had the junior and senior high summer bashes…both of which involved getting wet.
My highlight of the summer also involved getting wet – but the party was in heaven!  First, I got to serve as faculty at LaMoine Christian Service Camp during High Teen.  The culmination of this week- I had the privilege to baptize two campers! Two weeks later, I again had the privilege to baptize to more students!        [… and somehow God helped me not cry during any of them! Phew!]

Looking Ahead
As this gets ready to go to print, we have our Photo Scavenger Hunts:  Senior High is Friday July 13th and Junior High’s is Tuesday July 17th, 6-9pm .  Jr High – please meet at the Dolphin Fountain by the Post Office.  If you have a digital camera with a memory card, please bring it with you (details are listed on the FB event).
VBS – All Campus Life kids are invited to vacation bible school at Scotland Trinity July 29-Aug 2 6-8:15pm.  In partnership with three of our church partners, YFC senior high students will be serving there (leading games) and Campus Life students are invited to attend.

End of Summer Bash/Fall Kickoff! We are so excited for a huge kickoff this year! Go Forth, a Christian band that we enjoyed at camp comprised mostly of teens, will be joining us! As a result, we moved the date to August 18th.  Jr High Kickoff [kids grades 6-8] is Sat Aug 18th from 5-7pm.  Senior High kickoff is Sat. Aug 18th from 7:30-11pm.  Go Forth and a ton of other fun stuff will be going on.  Adult helpers, as well as soda &/or snack contributions, would be a huge blessing.

BE SURE TO VOTE….in the RK Dixon contest at RKDixon.com – Make My Non-Profit Run Better.  Look for Youth for Christ, Western IL.

July12 - Volunteer Training

Attention Volunteers/Future Volunteers:  YFC USA now requires all leaders to participate in a training program, which takes about 45 minutes on line. At 5:30 pm on Aug 9, at the SRC Outreach center (supper is included), we will be offering a Macomb/Bushnell combined training session: ministry specific training + the YFC required training.  Please let either Todd or Lauren know if you will be able join us.  [You may also complete the training online].

July12-Bushnell Beat

This has been one of the hottest months of my life.  Back in the 1980's, I remember it being hot in the summer as well, but that was a while ago.  It's been a great summer unless you have been trying to grow a garden or crops.  Amid this drought, I am reminded that the bible says in Matthew 5:45, “... the rain falls on the righteous and the unrighteous.”  This is the time we all need to lean on the Lord to provide, and realize that there are way more important things in this life to be concerned about – namely souls of people.

How can we help others to see their need for salvation through Jesus?  Even if they see their need, will they believe and put their trust in Him for eternal life?  Our lives are like kind of like the weather, aren't they.  We have rainy seasons, droughts, the more normal ebb and flow, etc.  Our challenge as a Christ follower is to be ready, in season and out, to share the hope that is within us with those around us.  Thanks be to Jesus Christ for His sacrifice and example for us.

The last month has been full of events.  We have had teens over for pool parties, games, and hay rack rides.  We have taken teens fishing, to Ball Fore (miniature golf, batting cages, and driving range) the last Cornerstone Festival, and Fun City (a water park in Burlington, IA).  Baseball has also been a big part of the summer.  Coaching can be very humbling, especially when the team doesn't win that often.  It requires instruction, encouragement (lots of encouragement), lots of repetition, and a very good knowledge of the game being played.  These are all special chances to be with teens, learn about them, set an example, and look for opportunities to share about the Lord.

Thank you for all of your prayers, gifts and blessings over the years!
